We said goodbye to beautiful Braubach.
We were leaving by train and the train station was pretty tiny and pretty empty!
We changed trains in Koblenz and got there early enough to catch an earlier train to Koln (Cologne) so that we wouldn’t have quite such a tight connection in Koln. While waiting for the train I looked in the bookshop where I found these:
A rubber duck for everyone. What is it with Europeans and rubber ducks??? Ha!
We left Koblenz bound for Cologne.
As we neared Cologne the scenery became increasing industrial and more modern, and the style of the older houses changed:
We had an hour’s wait in Cologne. Immediately outside the train station is one of the largest Gothic churches, so we dutifully went and had a look!
Then we caught our train to Arnhem in The Netherlands. The train was full and our seat only had a sliver of window to look out of so I concentrated on doing blog stuff on the trip instead of taking photos!
After picking up our rental car we made our way to Twello where we ate dinner with friends we’ve known by email for 15 years or so! It was wonderful to meet them in person, then as night fell we went on to Aunt Janny’s house in Emmeloord. Aunt Janny has known me since I was 9, she was with us in Kalimantan. She greeted me with a lovely big warm hug! It was so nice to relax in her beautiful home, we’re looking forward to spending a few days with her and staying in one place for a change!
