On our last morning in London we made our way to the International train station and boarded the Eurostar for a fairly fast trip to Paris.
We arrived at our Airbnb accommodation in Paris where Mike looked at the 3 flights of stairs in horror!
There was no elevator. Nuff said. 😉 Personally, I thought the lovely view from our rooms more than made up for taking our bags up the delightfully creaky 3 flights of stairs!
After dropping our bags off we made our way to Notre Dame, just a few minutes walk away, where we had arranged to meet up with some very special friends from the USA.
We had a cup of tea at Salon de The (beside Notre Dame) while we waited for them.
Then they were there, and so were we!!!
Woo hoo!!! Brian and Kakki were our next door neighbours in DC and were the best ever neighbours you could wish for! It was SO very good to see them again! We went into Notre Dame with them and had a look around.
Then we went around the corner to Saint Chapelle. I was impressed with just the entry way which was beautiful.
But the chapel itself was simply stunning with glass on all 4 walls.
Hard to give the impression with photos of how pretty this was to be in! Looking up at the ceiling gave an interesting perspective.
It was hard to get a picture of Saint Chapelle from the outside, because it is surrounded by other buildings:
It’s a bit disturbing that parts of it are falling off. They are collecting the pieces at the bottom apparently.
We then walked to the Musee d’ Orsay, passing interesting buildings on the way.
And there in the Musee d’ Orsay was the Statue of Liberty. Well, a small version anyway!
And quite a few other statues too, and paintings! Oh, the paintings… amazing famous paintings, and so many of them!!! Far too many to truly appreciate.
It was nice to see the original of this painting, I have an old, small print of it from my grandparents.
All the artworks are housed in an old railway station.
The old clock itself is a work of art:
Aww… 🙂 so very special to be here with these two amazing people!
The view of Montmartre from the Musee d’ Orsay was pretty amazing too.
Then it was time for some dinner in a lovely little French restaurant with a live jazz band playing. Perfect! 🙂
And I didn’t realise until I put this photo on the blog, that all four of us can be seen in it, thanks to the mirrors on the walls!
We then had a lovely stroll back to our accommodation on Île de la Cité, enjoying the Seine river in the evening light.
And we had just a glimpse of the Eiffel Tower and it’s searchlight.
