YES! Fast Wifi at last! ๐ So, continuing with our last day in Rome.
I love the way the Romans make up for not having a garden by creating a garden on the roof!
And this florist on a back alley. So, so beautiful!
The old and the new means of transport:
Those little cars need recharging at some point!
This is in the back of a leather shop. The leather work in Italy was beautiful.
There’s an abundance of acqua in Rome, you see the evidence everywhere. It is good water to drink too!
This little market place was so pretty…
We saw the inside of another “ordinary” church:
And I’m convinced that half of the world’s gold and marble must be inside churches in Rome!
Meanwhile, I met Pinocchio who was casually sitting in the sun outside a shop.
There was a ridiculous number ofย people all around this fountain:
Including us. When in Rome… ๐
Close up of the Trevi Fountain. ๐
There were three levels for getting photos at the fountain, there was tourists everywhere!!!
This pillar had incredibly detailed scenery on it. We went this way looking for the Parliament buildings as Mike had never seen them.
There were plenty of police and security around suggesting we weren’t too far away.
Found it! The steps of parliament.
Hard to get your head around the age of some of the architecture. There was some sort of protest or something going on here!
Then we visited the Pantheon.
What an amazing building! It’s hard to convey its stature in a photo.
The shadows on the sides of the dome were amazing!
We ate lunch at Piazza Navona:
Then continued exploring. We walked past this display of the oldest masonry work uncovered in Rome.
The shops were interesting. You could even buy gilt detailing if you wanted it:
And then of course there was the fashion:
For the young too:
We finally made it to the Spanish steps:
I have never seen a UPS van quite like this one. ๐ Ideal for the small roads here though. It would not work in Wellington. ๐
It was strange to seeย a lot of machine guns and pistols. Lots of security around the place but it never felt unsafe.
After this walk we took pity on our feet (Mike had a blister) and got the metro back to our accommodation where we relaxed a bit in the afternoon before going out to eat in the evening.
Our Airbnb host came over to see us in the evening and had a chat which was very nice. The local people in Rome have all been very helpful, and very friendly. We’ve had an amazing time, unforgettable!
