Just as I was getting used to adding an ‘i’, ‘o’, ‘a’ or ‘e’ to every word, we’re leaving Italy and traveling to Austria! No more will I be asking for acqua frizzante, but sprudel wasser. Danke schön. 😉
We are also leaving behind the lovely warm temperatures and heading for temperatures below 10 celsius.
We left the monastery early to catch our train. Early morning in Venice is pretty interesting. It’s the time of day when stocks are replenished so boats were busy delivering goods up and down the canals:
We found this lovely little spot to stop and have breakfast:
As we crossed a bridge near the train station, you could quite clearly see the alps where we would soon be heading:
We had 2 connections on this trip, we first went from Venice to Verona, changed trains there to go to Innsbruck, then got another train to Salzburg. So we spent a few hours on trains! The scenery was beautiful. So much for working on my blog on the train! 😉 The views outside were too interesting. As we reached higher altitudes there were many more vineyards:
And apple orchards:
Then there were pretty little villages:
And castles up high:
And this was still in Italy!
We began to see more snow on the mountains.
And more and more pretty chalets, even cows with cowbells on!!!
We marvelled at the engineering of this elevated motorway that we followed for some distance:
It was massive!!!
We arrived in Innsbruck and changed trains.
Then we enjoyed the beautiful scenery in Austria!
The sunflowers here are still going strong, unlike in Italy where they are past their prime:
We spied Ikea as we came into Salzburg:
We went straight to our accommodation. This time, instead of staying in a monastery, we stayed in a seminary, the Gästehaus im Priesterseminar Salzburg. Very recommended, the room was large and the beds were very comfortable and it was very central to everything we wanted to see and do. And yes, this is how beds are presented here:
Those curtains must be the largest I’ve ever pulled across and they moved with great ease, thankfully! The internal courtyard was very pretty:
We had a couple of hours of daylight left so we went exploring nearby:
And then got some food, a Schnitzel Platte!
