Living on reclaimed land is not as bad as you might think. 🙂 In fact, it is very pretty!
Aunt Janny took us to this amazing orchid house (and shop). We were quite at home there, just like being back in Kalimantan, complete with banana trees!
If Aunt Joan was here, she’d be saying, “Inilah pondok saya…” (This is my hut.)
So many beautiful orchids, each unique.
There were very large catfish too:
And monkeys!
And very pretty waterfalls.
There was a bird aviary as part of it, with beautiful lorikeets that we fed nectar to.
This one on my sleeve looked like he wanted to talk to me! I had 3 on my arm at one point!
What fun! 🙂
We walked past this old transport display, I liked this old sleigh:
And knew that Dad would like the old tractors, including a Ferguson:
Then it was into the butterfly zone with 2000 butterflies fluttering around, so pretty!
And unusual plants too!
These pretty little birds I’ve seen in Fiji. They were in the same enclosure as the butterflies.
It was near nigh impossible to get a decent photo of a butterfly, but these turtles were at the opposite end of the scale: not moving. And piled high. Simple to photograph. 🙂
Then we found an old becak/rickshaw:
And looked at the new cafe area with an “air garden”. Very pretty!
On our way back we saw this. A Cool Dental Clinic? Yeah right. 😉
In the afternoon we went to the little fishing village of Urk.
It had a large marina, including this yacht, which our kids never got to go on when they worked for Subway. 😉
Fishing. It’s what  you do in Urk.
We enjoyed wandering around the streets.
And little lanes!
You want to look like Urks, ya? 🙂
Lots of small houses, so much smaller than in Germany!
Many of the windows had lovely displays in them.
Some even looked like they were a shop because of their window sill displays!
The lighthouse in Urk:
Then we headed back and had a lovely meal and evening with Aunt Janny. 🙂
